The 2017-2018 first IB parents workshop finished on October 28th. Four professional teachers gave their presentations during the four and a half hours.

1028日,历时四个半小时,四位CAIS IB资深教师结束了2017-18学年首次IB家长工作坊。

Our parents reflected that ” The CAIS IB parents workshop is not the standard workshop where you just need to listen and make notes . It was not so easy because during the presentation we were asked to be a student. In this way, we understood how the IB teaching mode works, what learning attitudes our children should have, and the meaningful of the assessment which is very useful.”

走出多功能厅,家长们普遍反馈 CAISIB家长工作坊可不仅仅是听听课,记记笔记这么简单的,他让我们做了一天的学生,我理解了IB教师在用什么形式授课,我的孩子应该保持怎样的学习态度和各种评估标准的意义,很受用。”

Topic: Meaningful Assessment

Can you understand your child’s report card? What do EE and ME stand for? How can a teacher make assessment? These questions are the ones that parents were really eager to know. Therefore, before telling them how to do it, we asked all parents to have a role play game which showed us how to teach a child to skip and parents considered all the assessment aspects.


The game, which the parents found humorous, warmed the parents up and parents experienced how teachers evaluate students. However, the most important thing is to understand all the assessment parts, and allow parents to understand the report cards more easily.

PYP principal Mr. Agustin has 13 years’ experience in education. He has led many IB workshops. To be a life-long learner is the Missions Statement of CAIS, which is both persistent and challenging. What kinds of learning skills should a life-long learner have? Mr. Agustin asked many questions to help parents find the answer by themselves, such as: If you have right to change a rule now, and everyone in the world would follow it, what kind of rule you would make?


After the discussion, we found some very warm answers. We asked parents to pretend to be a learner and use their thinking skills, communication skills, social skills, self-management skills and research skills to find the answer. After the workshop, our parents felt that everyone can be a life-long learner, and that was a journey full of happiness and achievement.

热 烈的讨论后,我们看到了很多暖心的答案。一堂培训课程,家长们化身成了教育中的学习者,运用思考技能、沟通技能、社交技能、自我管理技能和研究技能得出一 个个问题的答案。会后,家长们普遍感受到,我们每个人都可以成为终身学习者,永远走在学习的路上,永远都在快乐,永远都在收获。

Topic:Assessment in the MYP Integrated Science(Focus on Criterion B and Criterion C)

Ms. Laura is a CAIS MYP Science teacher with 6 years of teaching experience. The MYP science framework aims to guide students to investigate independently and collaboratively through research, observation and experimentation. Therefore, Ms. Laura asked parents to join different groups and asked them to do an experiment. The topic was: how does the weight of the paper affect the distance that a paper airplane can fly? This was a common MYP Science lesson and parents need to complete a lab report.


The 3rd floor cafeteria was filled with many creative airplanes. All the parents completed the lab reports very seriously. Ms. Laura told the parents it was better to allow them to feel it rather than just tell them the contents. Therefore, after the workshop, parents totally understood the meaning and the criterion in the IB MYP science assessment.

于是,3楼报告厅热闹非凡,一架架造型各异的纸飞机起起落落,而家长们也是非常认真的在填写实验报告。Laura老师表示与其直接告知给家长IB的评估标准不如让家长去体会。会后,家长们明白了IB MYP科学课整个评估体系的建立并了解了学生实验报告部分的评判标准。

Some parents are familiar with MYP lessons and MYP5 Personal Project, but they may not know about MYP3 SA(Service as Action). In fact, MYP SA, PP and DP CAS are linked and enable students to be more caring. The reason is that IB doesn't just want to train student to be a high achievements, but also be well-rounded with characteristics, which include the right attitudes and skills.


DP Students showed their suggestion to all the parents


In SA class, a student needs to show initiative with the ability to find partners, communities or other programmers. All the skills they get from SA will greatly support and benefit them and help them to face the DP CAS challenges.


CAIS felt our parents’ enthusiasm and learning attitudes and we really appreciate the support of all the attendees. CAIS will bring an increasing number of workshops based on your feedback. During the learning journey, CAIS will always make our efforts along with you and your children to build better futures.
