Kairen has been a student at CAIS for 6 years and has received many
offers from different universities, including Emerson College (their
college of Film & Television ranks in the top 10 in the world);
Pratt Institute, which provides an annual scholarship of $18,000; and
Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), which provides a scholarship
of $9,000 for him every year. Kevin is quiet, modest, and courteous.
When it comes to his passion in photography, we can see something
brilliant shining in his eyes.
The following parts are the interview series of Kevin.
currently you have received many university offers and all of those
universities have great strengths in art professions. So which one do
I want to major in photography, film & T.V. Emerson is definitely my first choice.
We can often find your work being exhibited, in them we can see your artistry. When did you become interested in photography?
be honest, I really appreciate CAIS. When I was in MYP2 and MYP3, each
student needed to choose a club to participate in. I did not like sports
at that time and I was not interested in such clubs like soccer,
basketball, or even dancing. Actually, there was no choice for me so I
had to choose photography club. At that time, Mr. Adrian set up a smart
phone shoot club and I found the photos I shot were not bad. As a
result, I became increasingly interested in it.
What type of photos do you like to shoot? And what do you think of photography?
like wandering around the city, and I capturing urban scenes and
figures, stuff like that. Photography is just like a time machine; the
emotion and the meaning of that point in time are locked and contained
in a photo. Therefore, the great significance of photography is
recording, which helps me to focus on real life and emphasize those
details in life that are in life that are often overlooked.I like to
shoot some photos like documentary. For example, in Guilin Road many
people sell cockroach killer , and the advertisement goes like this ‘If
the cockroach cannotbe killed, I will be responsible for it’. It
reflects the problem of social distrust, and that sort of thing.
In your DP life, do you want to give your thanks to anyone special? And what do you want to say to him or her?
he is one of those people to whom I really would like to show my
gratitude. I want to tell him, ‘’my dear teacher, thank you for helping
me to find something that I will pursue for my whole life. I have
realized my value under your guidance, how lucky I am! Thank you! ’’
is an IB school and IB teaches students to think critically and to
enlarge their acquired knowledge. Additionally, IB teaches students to
put forward inquiry and negation, then students will make their own
conclusion after argumentation. Under this special education mode, have
you changed your understanding and attitudes towards the world?
you define something to be right or wrong by IB critical thinking, you
will have your own standard and find the essence. Consider what people
believed long ago, there were many stories in science and history, and
the heliocentric theory was one of them. People felt contemptuous of it
when it was first put forward, but it exactly owed to the critical
thinking of these giants who finally developed a great new epoch.

the way I deal with problems has changed. IB tells me that I can be
imperfect while I can also be relatively perfect. IB emphasizes balance,
which makes us know both our advantages and disadvantages. Compared
with the public schools, IB makes great efforts to provide broad regions
for all of us and helps us make good choices with great feelings and
emotions. Thus the knowledge is not the only thing we have acquired at
CAIS and I am very lucky that I have gained my whole-life goal of
learning to pursue.

has been in CAIS for 6 years. Six years ago, he was a student who could
not understand the teacher during class, and always stayed up late to
compelete homework. Now he is be able to calmly deal with the challenges
by himself. He is gentle and modest, but you can also feel a strong
sense of confidence when you see his photo works. IB has changed his
mind on understanding of different lives and the whole world, which also
inspires him to choose what his future career is. During the interview,
he said:” I record real life and show my understanding of the world
with my camera. The beauty or ugliness of the world can be revealed by
my camera. I will pursue it my whole life and I extremely enjoy it.”
there is a kind of education that can transfer power, CAIS believes
that would be IB education! After finishing the stories from these 6
interviewees, the editor strongly feels that IB changed their lives.
They are confident, outgoing, open-minded and modest. The most important
is that they keep chasing the IB learner profile to make learning to be
a part of themselves, even as an instinct. Just like what CAIS mission
statement mentioned, we hope one day, they can be valuable citizens of
the world and life-long learners.
CAIS is so proud of you, graduates of 2017! Go!!!
