In February this year, more than 30 lovely students who came from the primary and secondary schools in Changchun joined the 2018 CAIS Winter Intake Program. They spent one week to experience the different ways of learning and the IB teaching environment at CAIS.

今年2月,CAIS又迎来了30多名可爱的天使,他们来自长春各大小学和中学,利用一周的时间,沉浸在CAISIB教学环境中,感受不一样的学习方式。

The first lesson - Leave the Comfort Environment

第一课远离舒适空间

The students' first lesson of leaving the comfort environment was taking the experience card, walking into a strange classroom, and saying hello to the teachers whom they have never seen before. However, Ma Xiaoyu from Zhonghai No.1 Experimental Primary School said: "I made a good friend quickly. She helped me to translate when I could not understand, and helped me to arrange the seats and finish the assignments. I was very happy to have a good friend here!"

挂上体验卡,走进陌生的教室,和从未见过面的老师同学打招呼应该是我们所有体验学生远离舒适空间的第一课了!但是来自中海一实验小学的马潇雨对我们说:我很快就交到了好朋友,她帮我翻译我听不懂的英文,帮我安排座位和完成老师布置的作业,我很开心,我交到了一个好朋友!

Lesson two - I Am Confused by the Teaching Language

第二课我听不懂

"Teacher, I do not understand this question." - It's a question that almost every experienced student has raised! It is a real challenge for most Chinese students, as the official language of CAIS is English and all subjects (except Chinese) are taught in English. Most students from other primary schools need 3-6 months to adapt to our English teaching environment.

“老师,我听不懂。”这几乎是所有体验学生都提出过的一个问题!CAIS的官方授课语言是英文,所有学科(除汉语课)都使用英文授课,对于大部分本土学生来说,这确实是不小的挑战!要知道很多小学部的学生需要经历3-6个月才能适应我们的英语教学节奏。

Lesson Three - What? I have to do it all by myself?

第三课什么?我要自己做?

Grade 3 student Zhang Jiayi from Luyuan Primary School told us: "There are many kinds of disasters in this world. The teacher asked our team to discuss and then make a report of tsunami before the end of the class. Therefore, I was using the iPad to search the information about tsunami. I found that I had a lot of things to write, but in order to follow the teacher’s fixed format, I had to summarize." He never took his eyes off the Tsunami article, even though the camera was clicking at him... 

来自绿园小学3年级的张家祎对我们说:“这世界上有很多种灾难,老师让我们小组负责讨论海啸,下课前上交一个关于海啸的报告。所以我正在用iPad查询关于海啸的知识,我发现我有很多东西要写进去,但是要做成老师说的固定格式,我还得总结一下…….”即使相机在他身边咔咔作响,他的眼睛也一刻没离开过那篇描写海啸的文章……

Lesson 4 - Of Course, I Want to Stay Here to Study

第四课没错,我想留下

We are gratified that we have collected more than 30 questionaires showing that the students like the teaching atmosphere. They made many new friends and enjoyed the different learning experiences. At the end of the lessons, they gave sincere farewells to their teachers and their classmates without nervousness!

CAIS回收了30多份调查问卷,让我们感到欣慰的是,几乎每一个体验生都表示他们喜欢这样的教学氛围与形式,他们交到了很多朋友,体会到了不一样学习的乐趣。在体验课即将结束时,他们已经放下了最初的紧张,真诚的和所有教授过他们的教师,同学们说一声再见!


From a psychological point of view, having sustained drive is a very valuable thing for students and it is a kind of interest and curiosity about knowledge, but the internal drive will be weakened with the passage of time. So how it is that the students who have undergone IB education still maintain their energetic pursuit of knowledge, and still continue to aim hard work?

从心理学角度讲,对于学生,拥有一个持续不断的内驱力是一件十分可贵的事情。这是一种对知识的兴趣与好奇心,可是随着时间的流逝,内驱力会被弱化,但为什么经历过IB教育的学生们仍然保持着旺盛的精力去追求知识,仍然一如既往的向着目标努力呢?


Since 1968, IB Education has defined its goal of "becoming a proactive lifelong learner ..." IB has made the most of internal drive by stimulating students' curiosity and cultivating good habits and attitudes. When reflection becomes a learning habit and the critical thinking mode has gone deep into every step of the learning process, you will be surprised to find that even though the student's side is no longer taught by the teacher, he still has a strongly and curiosity feeling of concentration to explore this world!

IB教育自1968年开始,就明确了它的培养目标“成为积极主动的终身学习者”通过激发学生的好奇心,培养良好的习惯与态度,IB让内驱力发挥出最大作用,当探究与反思成为了一种学习习惯,当批判式的思维模式已经深入到每一步的学习中,你会惊讶的发现,即使学生身边已经没有了老师的教导,他依然拥有一颗专注与求知的心去探索这个世界!

Thanks to all the students and parents, thanks to all the teachers, we hope all students who has participated our Winter Intake can maintain their intellectual curiosity to face the challenges of the future! In April 2018, CAIS will hold an Open House again. Students can have an experience of the IB course by themselves.
