The attendees of these 2 workshops were mainly from PYP group. How do you encourage students to ask high level questions? What is the benefit of Jolly Phonics?
Ms. Jai, Ms. Patty, Mr. Michael and Mr. Agustin shared the benefits of Jolly Phonics and Language Development.
“The reading level of the children with Jolly Phonics skills is 11 months above the level expected for their age.”
the beginning of the language learning process, the ideas that the
students have are more important than the accuracy of the language used
to express them. Only through making mistakes will the students develop
their language ability."
Common Core provides a solid structure on which to base our teaching
and assessment of students at all phases of language development."
Teachers also encouraged parents to read books with children at home and share the progress together. Research has proven that reading with your child increase language acquisition.
The current topic in MYP and DP group is how to apply university. In this workshop, Mr. Robert showed some great tips to all the parents and he encouraged students to search for universities online, make reasonable targets and manage time wisely. If the students could take action step by step, hopefully, we will receive the best results.
When talking about the creativity, Mr. James(Acting Head of School / Secondary
Principal) sent out a paper to each group, and asked them to connect
all the dots with 3 lines. This interactive way can better allow parents
understand creativity’s importance. IB attaches great importance on
creativity. The concept of creativity imbedded in all subjects at CAIS.
In IB MYP Science classes, Ms. Zita never forced students to remember all the form and features in cells. Instead, she asked students to make models so they can remember them easily. Actually, we use the Multiple Intelligences Educational Theory: Music, Intrapersonal, Logical-Mathematical, Interpersonal, Bodily-kinesthetic, Linguistic and Visual-Spatial.
Colin asked the parents to think about their ambitions and divided them
into groups. Based on their goals they listed, they needed to reflect,
inquire the unknown parts and finally take action. The learning cycle is
repeated again and again to reinforce planning and creativity.
It is said that education is a kind of influence, and it makes a soul awaken another. We share the same aspiration: make the children have the pure soul and positive attitudes. We really appreciate all the parents who took part in our IB workshop. We hope this workshop will help you understand how education works at CAIS. Wish more and more CAIS parents can join us in the future. See you next time!
